The most significant solo museum presentation of Yasmin Smith’s work to date opens next week at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. Curated by Jane Devery and Manya Sellers, Yasmin Smith: Elemental Life comprises Smith’s major wall-based ceramic installation Seine River Basin (2019), commissioned for Cosmopolis #2: rethinking the human, Centre Pompidou, Paris, an archive of significant earlier works as well as major new works developed in the UK during the artist’s recent studies at Goldsmiths, The University of London. Yasmin Smith is exhibiting in the Aichi Triennale 2025: A Time Between Ashes and Roses at Aichi Arts Centre, Aichi Prefectural Museum, Seto City, Japan, curated by Hoor Al Qasimi. Yasmin is exhibiting a detail from her 2022 ceramic installation Forest, which incorporates 11 coal fly ash glazes. The work traces a 300-million-year timeline, narrating the afterlives of ancient forests and the cyclical return of elements absorbed during plant lifetimes to the biosphere.
